Dr. Matthews Hara is a public finance expert, academic, and development advocate with over 30 years of experience in auditing, governance, and capacity building. He served as Director at Zambia’s Office of the Auditor General, leading audits across ministries, parastatals, and donor-funded projects. Since 2013, he has been a lecturer and researcher at the University of Lusaka, where he also supervises postgraduate students.
Dr. Hara holds a PhD in Accountancy, an MSc in Auditing, and an MBA, and is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors. His expertise continues to support the Zambian Parliament and public institutions through consultancies on financial oversight and audit analysis. He sits on multiple national audit and tender committees, including at the Ministry of Finance and the Electoral Commission.
A former child of hardship, Dr. Hara draws from lived experience to champion youth empowerment and ethical leadership. He serves on the ChildFund Advisory Board and is a long-standing elder and leader in the Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa.
