Every Child Matters, No Matter Where They Live.

We go where the need is greatest, working in 21 districts to help children grow up healthy, educated, skilled and safe.

Our development and humanitarian interventions are tailored to each community’s culture and context to ensure relevance, ownership, and long-term sustainability. By listening to children, youth, families, and community leaders, we co-create solutions that address their unique needs and aspirations.

In collaboration with government entities and other like-minded organizations, we also implement national advocacy initiatives to ensure children and youth across the country grow up healthy, educated, skilled, and safe. These efforts are aligned with national priorities, helping to drive systemic change that uplifts and protects every child. ChildFund operates in the following districts:

When Communities Lead, Change Is Lasting

Community development is central to ChildFund’s mission to improve children’s well-being. Our programs are designed to engage local communities and key stakeholders in addressing the most pressing needs of both children and their surroundings. By involving those who know the challenges best, we ensure that our initiatives are locally led and impactful.

As communities grow more self-sufficient, we shift our focus to areas that need greater support. Together, child by child and community by community, we co-create environments where every child can thrive—growing up healthy, educated, skilled, and safe.

Before

A view of the mud-brick, grass-thatched structure that once served as a classroom for children at Kakonge Primary School in Shangombo — one of Zambia’s most remote districts near the Angolan border. Classes had to be suspended every rainy season or during the colder months.

After

In June 2022, ChildFund, with funding from the Irish Embassy, constructed a modern classroom block at Kakonge Primary School. This facility now serves 450 children. At the time of its construction, Kakonge Primary became the first and only school in the district, which has an estimated population of 84,070 people.

ChildFund’s presence in remote and hard-to-reach areas, such as parts of Mumbwa, is a lifeline. In communities where children once had no access to education, schools have been built. Health posts now provide essential medical care, and water reticulation systems ensure safe and clean water. Through these critical interventions in education, healthcare, and livelihoods, we are breaking the cycle of poverty and creating opportunities for every child to thrive, regardless of where they are born.” – GRACIOUS NKEETE, FEDERATION MANAGER, MUMBWA CHILD DEVELOPMENT AGENCY.
