ChildFund has officially handed over the newly expanded Chainda Youth Resource Centre in Chongwe District, marking a major milestone in youth empowerment and community development.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Country Director, Mr. Victor Koyi, described the event as “a celebration of partnership, progress, and shared commitment to transforming the lives of children, youth, and families.”
Mr. Koyi commended Amy Bell Charities for their unwavering support, noting that their investment of over US$86,000 has enabled the implementation of three impactful projects:
- The Women Caregivers’ Empowerment Project,
- The Expansion of the Chainda Youth Resource Centre, and
- The Nyashishi Teachers’ House Project.
He highlighted that what began as a single sponsorship between Amy Bell and the Saini family has now grown into a deep and enduring partnership that continues to touch hundreds of lives across Chongwe.
“This collaboration has helped create safe learning environments, supported families economically, and strengthened community resilience,” Mr. Koyi said.
The expanded Chainda Youth Resource Centre is now equipped with 10 bicycles, 10 sewing machines, a sausage maker, and a counter fridge. The facility is expected to benefit over 1,300 young people by providing access to reproductive health education, entrepreneurship training, skills development, and recreational activities.

Mr. Koyi also celebrated the success of the Women Caregivers’ Empowerment Project, which has provided 100 women with training and capital support, including 1,000 point-of-lay chickens, improving household income and food security. The initiative has directly improved the well-being of over 563 children by creating healthier, more stable home environments.
He thanked Mr. and Mrs. Larry Bell and the entire Amy Bell Charities family for their continued generosity and commitment, reaffirming ChildFund Zambia’s dedication to building “a brighter, more equitable future for every child.”
Meanwhile, Amy Bell Charities Chairperson, Mr. Larry Bell, shared that their ongoing work in Chongwe was inspired by his daughter Amy’s love for children.
He explained that Amy had sponsored a young boy named Emmanuel through ChildFund, developing a close relationship with him over five years. Before her passing, Amy expressed a wish for her family to continue supporting Emmanuel, his family, and the wider community.
“We honoured her wish by building a school at Nyanshishi, constructing teacher housing, and supporting this community centre,” Mr. Bell said. “While our foundation will continue to help, it is up to the community to nurture and guide these children.”
